A quick survey on the top breeding facilities, stallions, and mares was conducted by Amber Black of Stride of Perfection Stables fame. These are the results of that survey. Written by Ripley Marsh.
Alexia Harshing:
Who is your favorite sire and why?
-is torn- Impressario for longer distances, and Cryin Out Loud for shorter distances. They just throw nice foals, and it's always nice to see quality on the track.
Who is your favorite broodmare and why?
Sophie Might. To say she didn't do well as a racer, her foals seem to perform well.
Which stable breeds the most well bred and quality horses and why?
-Torn again- It's either SoPs or STBs. Both have some true quality in their bloodstock, and their racing stock shows it.
Nick Landing:
Who is your favorite sire and why?
My Favorite sire hands down is Augusto. Though deceased, he in my opinion was one of the all-time best sires with foals like Augusta, Bucephalus, Requiem and Anodyne to his name....he's influenced the bloodlines of the current thoroughbred on TW and soon GHF through Requiem, Bucephalus and the rising Anodyne. He had effectively spiced up the bloodlines and given us horses worth watching.
um on GHF though...I'd have to say Merry Bay King. He's a proven producer with high quality foals...almost guaranteeing the foals success!
Who is your favorite broodmare and why?
Bank On Silver and I'm so depressed that she's retired and I'll never get my hands on one of her foals!!!! All of her offspring were such huge successes, she's a proven producer with two out of six of her foals being Hall of Famers.
Which stable breeds the most quality horses and why?
On GHF, I say that currently that prize would have to go to SOPS. Thye put such careful thought into their breedings....and they're devious in getting reserves to other people's horses!!! XD
Ripley Marsh:
Honestly my favorite sires and broodmares are unoriginal, but I believe I'm representing an overall opinion and not just my own. Though I believe plenty of others would go with Merry Bay King.
My favorite sire is Night Stalker. The stud is unbelievable. He's a top sire himself and has proven himself to be quite a broodmare sire as well. I'm in love with the Akita Rose Stable stallion and have a grandson of his in the form of Sweeto Cheeto, a stallion out of Hall of Fame mare Sweet Stalker. I also have a Year Twelve colt of his out of The Devil's Touch. Whenever Night Stalker is bred, you know you have an excellent chance of getting a champion. I don't expect him to be at stud that much longer with the amount of foals he has already and his growing age. His breeding career has been exciting to follow.
My favorite broodmare is Bank on Silver. Quite honestly, I would have said that El Sol del Mar is my favorite, but well that would be extremely biased. Bank On Silver has to be the best foundation broodmare a barn could have and Star Thoroughbreds sure had an ace with her. Even retired, she is still making a name for herself through her son Impressario while he's at stud and Silverianna, her last filly whom ironically is sired by Night Stalker. She is a broodmare that will be remembered for ages for both her track record and her broodmare capabilities.
My favorite breeder is not really one specific breeder. Stride of Perfection Stables is a huge threat every year because they pair talent with sheer quality. Star Thoroughbreds have the numbers between their stallions and broodmares who also to have quality. I have only bred and kept foals from Akita Rose Stables. I feel as though Akita Rose Stables is under-appreciated.Their horses are threats every time and people better start realizing that the top quality horses aren't all in the big stables, but in the medium stables too.
Amber Black:
I never breed to the same sire twice, but there are a couple sires I like. Merry Bay King, of course, in my extremely biased opinion, for reasons others have already said. Sweet Sugar Cane is also a really good sprinting sire. He's sired Deadly Desires, Sugar Jayde, Windbreaker, Afterglow...the list continues to grow and he's only getting better. True Enough, of course, has his place beside Merry Bay King. Impressario, too. But that's also really biased. From outside the barn, I have to admire Night Stalker. I've also grown to like News Flash and The Natural. Crooked Fire, too.
Broodmare wise, my favorite broodmare, hands down, is Forbidden Wings. All of her foals are grade one - all of them, except for Forbidden To Fly, in grade two. She's a talented mare and I think she's a bit underrated in her successes. On To Dancing is my other favorite, dam of Radiance, On To The Spotlight, Mystical Melody and Fire Dancer. Little Miss Innocent is quickly becoming my favorite as well, and she's always warring with Wild Flower in my heart for top turf producer honors. From out of the barn, Bank On Silver will always have a place in my heart. So will Rising Fury. And El Sol Del Mar is proving to be a powerhouse. And Born To Fly. I also really like Rosalind's progeny record - she's established Intrepid.
Stable wise, I think Intrepid breeds some amazing old lined horses. It's good to have them around for that influx. Akita Rose blends old with new and I like how almost all of their breeding stock is grade one. That's a tough feat! Star Thoroughbreds, of course, has a lot of resources and they use them to their full advantage. I think Silver Stride Stables is also becoming a very good breeding powerhouse. But don't forget Triple Krown Racing - somehow, they've got some good blood in their young stock and it can be hard to miss!
